The mission of the Centre for Research in Mathematics and Science Education (CRiMSE) is, through research and its applications, to provide leadership in the enhancement of the learning and teaching of mathematics and science.

CRiMSE aims to fulfil its mission by

  • carrying out basic and applied research on how students learn
  • applying research findings in the local and national community
  • developing and supporting a community of researchers and research students
  • actively supporting quality learning and teaching

  • Joanne Mulligan and Lyn English (QUT) presented an invited paper at an international conference at the Erikson Early Childhood Institute, Chicago, in April.
  • Wilhelmina van Rooy has been appointed to the Science Advisory Panel of the National Curriculum Board.
  • Marina Papic is a member of a consortium currently writing the national Early Years Learning Framework for the Australian Government. 
  • Staff have recently published a preservice mathematics textbook, a series of secondary maths workbooks and an early childhood pattern book.
  • Michael Cavanagh has received a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council.
  • Leigh Wood has been appointed to the Education Committee of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute.
